Akron to expand summer youth jobs program after record turnout

Akron will expand its summer youth-employment program by 200 paid positions next year, city officials said, after a record wave of applications forced hundreds of teenagers onto a waitlist this summer.

The program, which places residents ages 15 to 18 in paid jobs at city departments, nonprofits and local businesses, drew more than 1,800 applicants this year — the most in its decade-long history.
